4th of July

We had a really great 4th of July this year.  We had been to a parade and lit our own fireworks a couple days before on Saturday (I'll blog about that later) so on Monday, the actual holiday, we kept it pretty low key.  We decided to just pack a lunch and take a hike up Millcreek Canyon.  It was a bit cool, rainy, and muddy (perfect hiking conditions in my mind) and it turned out to be such a nice relaxing activity with the family.  I think I'd like to make it a yearly tradition.
Jack with his "big stick" that he found.
All the kids with their big sticks.
The dog that grabbed Jack's big stick from him...
...and ran off with it!
No trip is complete without a "bunny ears" picture.
After the dog took Jack's big stick, he found a piece of bark.  "Look Mom!  It's like a gun!"
I swear that kid can make a weapon out of anything!
Looking at all the "rollie pollies".
Trying to jump across the water.
Really just getting more soaked!
At the end of our hike...time to turn around.
But not before enjoying our lunch and some red and blue 4th of July star shaped cookies.

  1. Did Annie make it across the water?

I think the bark looks like a gun too... ;)

Where are the cookies from? They are so cute!

What a fun day! You know if it's a tradition it will normally be hot though, right? I'm wondering if you are imagining it rainy and cool every year...I guess it would probably always be cooler than the valley though!
