Happy New Year 2013

For New Year's Eve this year we were invited to dinner by our friends Natalie & Tyson Messick.  We met the Messicks in Singapore and we are happy they now live in Utah and we can visit them more often.  We had a mexican pot luck dinner with our friends and a few other families that they invited to their home.  We had good food and conversation.  The kids shot each other with Nerf guns and tried out the Lego Mindstorm the Messicks got for Christmas.  We had a great time but unfortunately I didn't get any photos.  :(

After leaving the Messick home around 8pm, we took the kids to spend the night with our longtime friends the Stirlands.  The kids (ours and theirs) had been wanting to have a sleepover all Christmas break and this was the only night that worked out.

The kids had a great time popping "Hourly New Year's Eve" balloons.  The balloons were filled with pieces of paper with a suggested activity for that hour.
8pm - Make Brownies and Play Freeze Tag
9pm - Watch A Movie
10pm - Air Hockey Tournament
11pm - Hide & Seek and Reindeer Race Game
Midnight - CELEBRATE!!!
12:20am - Go To Bed!! (They didn't want to pop this balloon because they knew what was inside.)
On New Year's Day, Jeff and I participated in the New Year's Revolution Run at the Utah Olympic Oval in Kearns.  Neither one of us had been running so we figured we might finish a 5K.  During this 5-hour event, you choose when you start/finish and how many laps you want to complete.  Each lap around the track is 442 meters.  We finally got out of bed and made it to the track around 9am.  After walking a few laps we decided to run one lap, walk one lap, run one lap, etc., and just see how far we could go.  After 18 laps and seeing the medals that were available for half marathon finishers, we decided to go for it.  End result....49 laps=22,542 meters=14 miles!!!  It was a great way to start 2013!
My New Year's resolution for 2013???
Never go anywhere without a decent camera again!
I only had my phone to take photos with and it really annoys me that all these photos are terrible but I decided to post them anyway.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU!!!

  1. Why can't phones take the same quality pictures as a dslr?! These are super fun pictures and it's great to capture the moment so I'm glad you posted them. I'm so impressed you ended up doing a half marathon. That is a fantastic way to start out the year. Wish we could have made it to Natalie's to see you all. And I love the ballon idea!
